Victoria (Vicky) Bedi is a native Vermonter although her heart is that of a Mainer. She has played the piano since the age of four and has been a church organist for over fifty years. Many years ago she promised herself that she would write her mother's memoirs; when she began writing them she found that those memories were her own. The result is Whisper of Hope, Cry of Despair.
This story is about Slavic immigrants coming to the New World during the first decade of the 20th century; how they lived; and what adversities they faced. It tells about the murder of my paternal grandfather in 1917 and the resulting shame, guilt, and loss of family for my father and his brother. It tells of the suicide of my maternal grandfather who couldn’t bear the loss of the Czar’s Russia and who couldn’t face the shame and guilt of familial incest. Finally, it tells of the intergenerational effects of child abuse such as further child abuse and spouse abuse.
